SA You Are Still The Champions

Dear South Africa,

You may have lost the Semi Final but you have won our hearts. To see your captain in tears made us equally sad as you all must be. You have been a great team, great ambassadors & above all great cricketers.
Victories & defeats are part of this game but winning hearts is a rare thing. ABD we Indian always love cricketers who have BIG hearts & yours is the biggest of all.
We have loved our SACHINS, our DRAVIDS & our MSDS, you have managed to get yourself up there too. When you return to India this April to play for your franchisee during the IPL, the support you will extract will somewhat heel the pain of your defeat to NZ in Semis.

South Africa loads of RESPECT & BEST WISHES to your team, you have been true GENTLEMAN of the wonderful game we all love.

 - An Indian

  9. Felt very sad after watching the champs in tears. Its really a bad luck which ruined them from achieving the win. ABD you are a favoulous captain, who even took the whole lose on your head, as very less admits their faults un the match. Everything was going well, the mis fieldings in the end cost you the loss... But still you are always in our hearts... Its just a game, where one have to win and one will lose. So dont worry, next game will be yours as SA are the champions...

    1. Everyones acting like New Zealand wasn't deserved winners I don't care about the rain, that was unfortunate yes but when you have to defend 298 in 43 you give yourself every chance to win, McCullem gave NZ hope and Anderson and Elliot partnership gave us a real belief we could win, SA fielding let them down when it really counted and the black caps held their nerve... once again, Indian fans worry about your semi final first okay and to be honest McCullem is going to destroy your frontline bowlers I'm sorry you seen what he did to Steyn I haven't been convinced of India"s bowlers, if Australia doesn't exploit them the NZ openers will

    2. Very different chasing when you know the total.
If south africa had of known they were only getting 43 overs from the start they probably would have attacked earlier.
New Zealand still being deserving winners but look at the wickets in hand. Add 7 overs to each team and i doubt new zealand cound have chased another 70 - 100 runs.

      Delete
    3. Yep, and if NZ had known they were only bowling 43 they may not have had Anderson bowling at the death. This situation swings both ways. What would we have been saying if NZ scored 290, outscoring SA but still losing?

As much as I feel for SA, they can't have it both ways. It's either Duckworth-Lewis and they get 2015, or its the old system and they get 1992. That's one of the mysteries of Cricket.

      Delete
    4. SA won the toss too. They chose to bat first. Rain and Duckworth-Lewis are part of the game. Good captains are aware of the weather forecast and adjust tactics accordingly. SA were unlucky to lose, but if they had won we'd be saying NZ were unlucky to lose. You could say any of the 4 semi-finalists deserve to win this year, unfortunately 2 teams won't even make the final.

    5. Yes....it was rain///due to which nwz win///only this reason//.otherwise SA may score...360 0r 370+...and then there will be no any pressure on fielding side..adn bowling side of south africa...and for kind ur information,,,india is not worry about Nwz...india will take revenge in final with nwz,,india is waiting for u nwz// and // i am indian but I supported Sa team and AB,, miller styen morkel....from bottom of my heart......
Reason-1----Nwz playing at there homge ground......where miss time shot getting six..
      Reason-2---big reason,,,Fucking rain....
      Reason--3----DL method...
Reason.-4----if last 7 over will be played...Nwz have to chase ..another 100...or 120..run,,bcauz AB-de villiers was still playing...
Reason-4....run out and catches was missed.....
This all reason.....but over all Bad luck time ,,,yesterday for SA...

      Delete
    6. It's sad when NZ supporters have to come on an Indian page supporting SA in their loss and try and justify their win. Can't you just accept that people support the loser sometimes and enjoy your victory.

      Delete
    7. Coulda, woulda, shoulda. Regardless of the rain (and if nothing else, it did at least break the momentum SA were building), the kiwis got 300 in 43 overs. That's massive in anyone's book.

But also, SA had so so many chances to win that match. The missed runouts and fluffed catch were only down to themselves. It wasn't raining then.

I was at the game, and remarked to someone with about 6 overs to go that SA were ragged. Throws to the keeper were off target, lots of arm waving and everyone trying to set fields. The pressure got to them.

They were a gallant side though, and got a standing ovation from the crowd as they walked off.
We've been through it with rugby world cups. SA, i'd love to tell you time heals, but sorry to say scars like this are permanent. I can tell you that you will have your day though, and you're now 4 years closer to that victory.

  48. AB De Villiers. Do u know him.?? I think u know him as a cricketer from South Africa and playing for Royal Challenger Bangalore in IPL. Now know some thing more about him:- 1. He played as goal keeper for Jr national hockey squad. 2. He was shortlisted for Jr national football squad. 3. Captain of South Africa Jr rugby. 4. Holds six south africa school swimming records. 5. The fastest 100mtr time in South Africa junior athletics. 6 . A member of South Africa Jr Davis Cup tennis team. 7. National Badminton U-19 champion. 8. Has won under19 golf tournament. 9. Founder member and chief donor for underpriviledged children and cancer hospital in Capetown. 10. Has adopted an entire village in a remote area of Zimbabve and funds the entire village development.. And u will be thinking ke fir to sala padhai me zero hoga and here it comes: He received a national medal from Late Mandela ...award for a Biochem Science project...!! World records ....31 balls 100 runs - 16 balls 50 Amazing achievements for any human being, one more about ABD ... he has recorded a bilingual pop music record too... And then some people keep complaining 'He is not good

  49. D/L method sucks big time! It never seems 2b fair with team batting 1st so i jst dont get it y ICC is unable 2find its alternate but lets admit 1thing after all the distractions..PROTEAS had their chances wich they cudnt grab & its all part of the game n errors r bound to happen evn by d best in d business. There r so many players..some play defensive..some play elegent...& some play attacking cricket....but then, There's AB de Villiers...Yes proteas r defeated once agn...but sumday dey wud definately taste big victory n tat one wud heal all the disappointments they had!

  53. I appreciate your kind words to AB about his heart & passion. However it seems pretty rich coming from the people who's national cricket team on field behabiour is appaling...they boast/sledge/ego/stir on the field. The kiwi's are the true gentlemen's of the game on field. We bow in defeat & we help in victory. Would your team or the Aussies/SA do that? To make my point even more clear..when offered a hand by our batsman. The SA player pushed it away and walked away. That my friend is the character of that team!!

    1. Agreed on all fronts. Fact was at the end of the match some South African players turned down the handshake.

The New Zealand team has proven you do not have to be a tosser on the field to win. I think Australia and India are two teams whose conduct on the field is shocking and at times borders on bullying. It makes both nations look like idiots and is cancerous on the sport.

If there is one thing to come from this World Cup it is that I hope teams and fans start to adopt New Zealands "good guy" mentality, and not just on the field either.

      Delete
    2. I think it just meant so much to them that the were broken, but also frustrated after trying so hard. I believe AB has brought alot more spirit to the team than anyone else. He leads drop the front and does it well. I can't speak for every one on the team but had SA won, I'm sure they would have treated NZ with just as much respect. In saying that, I'm not trying to take away from NZ at all. I've believed this whole tournament that NZ would be our biggest threat. They've played well, and shown lots of character. If we were going to lose, I wouldn't have been satisfied with a loss against any other team. I hope NZ wins this cup. They're the only team other than my beloved who deserve it

  54. ABD, u r extremely talented cricketer n it was being pleasure watching your batting through out the tournament. .....

You led d team from front n motivated them to get best out of them. ... Your intensity towards dis game has made you popular around d world. ...

The way u guys were playing a cricket, no one was expecting sad ending of your journey. ... Once again d D/L method ruined your dream of lifting a trophy. ....

It was happened in 1992 when SA played their first WV. ....No was expecting you will reach till semi final.... but dis time you were hot favourite n i was eager to see Ind v/s SA in final.....

Nevertheless, I salute to your commitment n intensity towards dis game..... Will love to see ypu as champion in 2019 world cup.......we know,u will not miss that oopportunity

    1. The Duckworth lewis method did not ruin it, NZ had the highest run chase on wc history to chase. They did this. Both great teams but credit where it's due. NZ are unbeaten, and McCullum is every bit as good as AB. Now let's not get cocky and see who's in the final, Aussie have the upper hand.

    2. Comparing ABD with mccullum and maxwell is like comparing MSD with sakib al Hasan.

      Delete
    3. People can't blame Duckworth. Only blame the rain. I'm not blaming the rain for SA's loss, but rather for an unsatisfactory outcome. The game is meant to be played over 50 overs. Maybe if it hadn't rained SA still would have lost. That would have been better than this. Like people have said, if it SA had known they only had 43 overs, maybe they would have attacked earlier and achieved a higher score. That being said, maybe NZ still would have chased it down and won. The problem is that the rain brings in too many variables to have a satisfactory outcome. Congrats to NZ though, I hope they lift the cup at the end. It's just sad that a post dedicated to respecting a great player gets bashed by the team that won. Everyone boast about how gentlemanly the NZ team was, I only wish the fans were the same

  91. As a South African, I am glad that our team didn't fold completely to the Kiwis, and they took it to the last over. However rain or not, Brendon McCullum's knock set the foundation for his team and gave his team the edge. The pressure got to Proteas at the end. Some will call the Proteas chokers, but then the Kiwis have been in six previous semis and not made the finals - have they ever been called chokers? Who are to judge how how easy it is to win, unless we are out in the middle ourselves? Obviously AB and his team were heartbroken not to win the semi. I think they did their best under the circumstances and that is
good enough for me - like I said, they gave the Kiwis a heart stopping game, but at the end of the day the best team won. I am sitting here watching the Aus/India semi, and when the group stage was finished, I predicted an Aus/NZ final - but we shall see, the game isn't over!
